A Christmas
newsletter each year with the Schimmel news throughout that
year.
All SCHIMMEL kittens are raised indoors. Our babies are all born in our bedroom and when they are a day old they are moved into the Kitten Room where they spend the first 2 - 3 weeks of their lives, handled by ourselves and our daughter. When they reach 3 weeks of age, they are moved downstairs during the day in the back room where I work. The back room has glass doors so the babies can see and hear all the normal household going on's. At 6 weeks of age the babies have access to our fully enclosed cat run as the babies love to spend time safely in the fresh air. The door leading out to the run is left open during the day so the babies can choose to be inside with me or outside in the fresh air. Between 8 - 13 weeks of age we allow our babies access to the whole of the downstairs with free reign to mingle and socialise with the other cats and our dogs. By this stage they are fully used to being handled by visitors as well as family members. Of an evening, our babies sleep either in the Kitten Room, or if there are younger litters in the Kitten Room, they sleep in the upstairs hallway. We believe that by integrating our kittens from an early age and getting them used to everyday life, i.e. visitors, Hoovers, doorbells, TV, children, pets etc. they will be happy, confident kittens which will help them to settle in to their new lives with you. All SCHIMMEL kittens are vaccinated, wormed and they will be registered on the Non Active register with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy.
Any prospective guardians are very welcome to view the kittens
when they are 6 weeks of age. You won't be able to handle
them at that age as they are still very susceptible to disease
but you will be able to see them, and the mum, in their
home environment. When the kittens have reached 10 weeks
of age, you are welcome to view them and handle them, but
when you are here, we do expect you to wash your hands thoroughly
before handling the kittens. We are happy to answer any
questions you may have and will even give you a cup of tea
or coffee. To make an appointment for viewing the kittens,
please contact us.
Our kittens are vaccinated before they go home with their
new guardians and their vaccinations are done at 9 and 12 weeks
of age. They will be able to go to their new homes at 13
weeks of age.
We hope to be producing Siamese cats of
great breeding, health, temperament and type. If you are a
new kitten guardian and need advice or are worried about something
your new kitten is doing, whether you adopted the kitten
from ourselves or another breeder, then we are always here
to offer help or advice either by telephone
or email.
If we don't know the answer or aren't able to help you, I'm
sure we will know someone who can.
Remember that like you, we
also once adopted a kitten for the first time and were in the
same situation so we understand the stress of being a new
guardian. No matter how silly you might think your question is,
we can promise you that to us, it will be a perfectly normal
question. You should also remember that we love to hear how
SCHIMMEL kittens are getting on in the new
home and we are always available for a "cat chat"
with other Siamese or new kitten guardians.
Please note:
We will NOT adopt kittens out to people who are adopting them for
Christmas presents, birthday presents or as gifts. All SCHIMMEL
kittens will be registered on the Non-Active register (NO EXCEPTIONS) which means that they can not be bred
from. We also will not adopt any of our kittens out overseas, whether
it's for pet homes or breeding homes. Any possible show quality
kittens will only be available to guardians who are prepared
to show the kitten. SCHIMMEL Siamese, Orientals & Sokoke reserves
the right to refuse to allow our kittens to be adopted by guardians that we do not
feel are suitable.
